Chittagong mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has expressed his desire to buy the Chittagong Vikings franchise in the next edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in 2017.
Even though the current owner of the franchise DBL group has the right of the team till 2018, Nasir believed they could manage them to take the ownership of their local team.
“Everybody has the rights to buy a team but they are not from Chittagong originally. So the people’s expectation wasn’t fulfilled,” Nasir said.
“There is huge pressure on me to own the Chittagong franchise as the people want to get an owner from Chittagong. That’s why I’ll try to buy it in the next season. If the almighty Allah wants, certainly I’ll buy it for the people of Chittagong.”
While Nasir, also a vice-president of BCB, showed his interest in acquiring the franchise, the DBL group chairman Abdul Wahed, the incumbent owner of the franchise said they want to keep it until 2018 as they bought the team for that time period.
“I have no intention to leave the franchise. I want to continue till 2018. That’s all what I can say at the moment.”
