Chittagong Vikings will move ahead very cautiously in what number of matches they have left in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the 2016-2017 season.
Although they got off to a solid start beating defending champions Comilla Victorians, they could not carry on the momentum later stages at the same pace.
At second phase in home turf, Vikings staged a much-needed comeback that they got from their previous day’s (sixth) win against Rajshahi Kings following the nightmarish four-match humiliation on a trot.
The team held their pre-match day practice at the Chittagong Divisional Women’s Sports Complex to hone their skills and techniques with the participation of the local and foreign players.
After their practice, wicketkeeper-batsman Zakir Hasan said that they are focusing on one match at a stretch so that they could win the match by playing their better cricket and move forward to the next phases.
“Last match we all played well. Now we have fixed a target to move ahead match by match because each and every match is important for us,” said Zakir Hasan.
“Already we have played six matches and identical another six matches we have in hands. Not to focusing all the matches at a time, we will focus just on a match and try to win it,” Hasan told newsmen after the end of their practice session.
He said that they started making big scores by dint of their senior players, who got back their forms that consolatory news for them.
“Like others Bijoy bhai, who was struggling for runs, scored a scanty runs for the team but last match he struck half-century. And so, the good base is being made. For this we could build a decent total that eventually benefits us,” he said adding “All are performing well by staging their good comeback. Inshallah, we will do well.”
Citing the names of some senior players including Taskin Ahmed, Imran Khan Jr and Mohammad Nabi, Zakir said that the team can do better further if local players could contribute more than the past.
“Taskin bhai bowled well in the first match but he did not do in the next two matches. He also comes back very well, taking five wickets. Imran bhai (Khan Jr) like Taskin also bowled well.
