Title aspirants Dhaka Dynamites will face-off Rajshahi Kings in the day’s first match of the BPL-4 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chittagong at 1:00pm today.
This will be the second encounter between Dynamites and Kings. In their opening meet at Dhaka phase, Rajshahi Kings overwhelmed star-studded Dhaka Dynamites by six wickets. Kings bounced back in BPL campaign by winning the match following the shocking loss of the nail-biting opener over Khulna Titans.
Thereafter, Rajshahi Kings are yet to win any match though they played so far four matches. Of them, they lost few close matches because of their irresponsible batting performance, mostly from the senior players.
Now it turns for Dynamites to take their revenge against Kings, who are languishing in the sixth position with two points from five matches. On the other hand, Dhaka Dynamites are on the pole position of the points table with eight points which they earned from their six matches.
At present, three teams including Dhaka Dynamites, Rangpur Riders and Khulna Titans notched up the identical eight points each but due to better net run-rate Dynamites are on top, Riders placed second, while Titans became third.
On Saturday, Dynamites played their sixth match against Khulna Titans. And so the team management did not keep any practice schedule.
Rajshahi Kings on the other hand did their practice session at the Chittagong Divisional Women’s Sports Complex, where their captain Darren Sammy talked to the media after the practice.
West Indian all-rounder Sammy said that they still have beliefs to make it through the play-off of the T20 tournament.
“We are not playing well. We are not getting the results we need. We are much better team than that,” said Darren Sammy, who led West Indies to be World T20 champions in both 2012 and 2016 occasions.
“We still believe that we could make it through the play off,” Sammy told reporters.
Citing the name of Dynamites, Kings’ captain said that they beat Dhaka which will inspire them to repeat their task tomorrow.
“We will play against Dhaka tomorrow. They are the only team we beat in the competition. That is motivation for us,” the pace all-rounder said.
He said that the foreign players beside the local players have to take more responsibility to defeat their opposition.
“Our fielding is not up to the mark. We did not bat well to put pressure on the opposition. Everybody has to step up, specially our overseas players,” World T20 winning captain told.
Praising Sabbir Rahman’s performance, Sammy said that they have to perform as a team and then possible to win in T20.
“Sabbir is our leading batsman. He is scoring runs for us. But cricket is a team sport and we cannot rely on one person,” Darren Sammy, who is the only foreign captain in BPL, said.
