Bangabandhu Satellite draws attention 
at ITU Telecom World

The four-day ITU Telecom World 2016 wrapped up proceedings on thursday at IMPACT Convention and Exhibition Center, Bangkok, following an action-packed programme of showcasing, debate, networking and awards. 

Bangladesh Telecommuni-cation Regulatory Commission (BTRC) led the Bangladesh team with representatives from Teletalk, Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, Nationwide Tele-communications Transmission Network (NTTN) operator 
fiber @ home and Summit communication. 
The Bangabandhu Satellite Project received the prestigious “Recognition of Excellence” award from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim received the award on behalf of the government at the concluding ceremony of the four-day ITU Telecom World 2016 in Bangkok on Thursday night.
Project Director of the project Golam Razzaq told The Independent that work has been going on to launch the satellite by December 16, 2017.
Almost 50 per cent work has been completed, he added.   
 NTTN operators fiber @ home and Summit communication highlighted their success story at the exhibition.  
Head of Regulatory Affairs, Fiber at home, Abbas Faroque told The Independent that “It is not possible to ensure the fastest internet without the optical fiber. Therefore, to ensure the quality of mobile phone, PSTN, ISP, Triple pay service, fiber home is very important.”          
Some 250 Exhibitors, including 107 exhibiting tech-SMEs and 60 partners and sponsors took part in the event. Over 330 leaders from 90 countries joined the debates, including top-level representatives from Hungary and the Republic of Korea – past and future ITU Telecom World host countries. 
The event, which was formally opened in the presence of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Kingdom of Thailand and General Chan-o-cha Prayut, Prime Minister of Thailand, included big names, countries and SMEs from around the world and welcomed over 8,800 participants.
