Three fake DB men arrested
Members of the Detective Branch (DB) arrested three fake DB members from Model Town Area in Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital on Saturday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as M Sajal, 30, M Soleman, 25, and Shapan, 18. Officer-in-charge of the DB of Dhaka District (South) police M Ohiduzzaman Mollah said the trio, identifying themselves as DB men, forcefully picked up one M Suman, 18, from Model Town area on Friday night. Later, the abductors called Sumans father over mobile phone and demanded Tk one lakh as ransom. On information, the detectives conducted a drive in the area and arrested Sajal, Soleman and Shapan.
Old man crushed under bus
SYLHET: A 95-year-old woman was killed as a bus ran over her at Biswanath on Jagannathpur road in Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Rahima Begum wife of late Ramjan Ali, a resident of West Patrikul village of Sreemangal upazila in Moulvibazar. Sub-inspector Rajib of Biswanath police camp said a speeding Jagannathpur-bound bus from Biswanath ran over the old woman around 9:45 pm, leaving her dead on the spot. Police recovered the body and handed it over to the family members.
Call to form 9th wage board for media workers
Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers and Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Karmachari Foundation in a joint meeting yesterday demanded to immediately form the 9th wage board for media workers.
They also threatened to hold a public rally on December 4 to materialise their demands.
The joint meeting also decided to submit memorandum to the information minister to press home their demands. Presided over by Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers president Alamgir Hossain Khan, the joint meeting was conducted by Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Kormachari Foundation president Md Motiur Rahman Talukder. Top leaders including Abdul Mannan Khan, among others, addressed the meeting.
