The High Court yesterday granted an interim bail for six months to BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in eight more cases filed against him in connection with street violence, reports UNB.
An HC bench comprising Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das passed the order after a hearing on the BNP leader’s bail petition.
Of the eight cases, three were filed with Paltan Police Station, while two with Jatrabari Police Station, and one each with Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Khilgaon police stations against Rizvi on charge of carrying out subversive activities, including vandalising and torching vehicles and hurling crude bombs.
Rizvi’s Lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon said the BNP leader has so far secured bail in 17 cases filed against him this year. However, the government has appealed with the Appellate Division against the HC order awarding him bail in four cases on July 1.
