The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) here on Monday organised a roundtable discussion with the participation of young representatives from eight universities who talked about eight millennium goals (MDGs) and post-2015 development agenda - proposed SDGs, reports UNB.
Development and governance activist Dr Zahirul Alam spoke on the occasion as the chief guest while Kazi Ali Reza, UN expert and Director (com) of Dhaka Ahsania Mission presided over the programme where the Millennium Development Goals Report 2015 was launched, according to a media release issued by UNIC, Dhaka on Tuesday.
UNIC officer-in-charge M Moniruzzaman moderated the roundtable and shared the salient features of the report where there are significant improvements in various goals during the last 15 years globally, including Bangladesh.
Apart from youngsters, NGO activists, academicians, communication experts, civil society members and cultural personalities took part in the discussion.
Issues like consumerism, sharing of knowledge, data analysis, role of NGOs, maternal mortality, attitude towards women, discrimination, poverty, climate change, environment-friendly industrialisation, quality education, inclusiveness and equity came-up in the roundtable discussion.
The young representatives said young voices need to be heard and opportunities need to be created to put the efforts of young generation.
