The High Court yesterday asked the Home Secretary and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to submit a report within 30 days after investigating the torture of a prisoner at Kashimpur jail, reports UNB.
An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Hoque and Justice Abu Taher M Saifur Rahman passed the order following a writ petition filed by a human rights organisation.
The court also issued a rule upon the authorities concerned to explain as to why they should not be directed to stop torture on and showing inhuman attitude to prisoners. The Home Secretary, the IGP, the DIG (Prisons), the Jail Super of Kashimpur Jail, its jailer, former subedar Mustain and Jamaddar Lutfur have been made respondents to the rule.
