Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said that the prices of fuel oils would be cut soon after consultation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “We have discussed on fuel oil prices at the meeting of the fiscal co-ordination council. We would prepare the papers to cut the prices and then hand necessary documents over to the energy ministry,” he told journalists after a meeting with International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation at his office in the secretariat. “The matter would be finalised after consultation with the prime minister,” he added. Earlier on Monday, a decision was taken in principle to reduce the fuel oil prices at the fiscal co-ordination council meeting at the secretariat, with finance minister in the chair. The meeting indicated that the reduction of fuel oil prices could be effective from next month. In reply to a query, Muhith said, “Common people will get the benefits of the price cut. The decision will affect the prices of everything.” Meanwhile, the energy ministry sources said they had sent a proposal to cut the fuel oil prices but they were yet to get any nod from the prime minister’s office.
