A criminal gang leader was killed during a ‘shootout’ between gang members and police in Sitakunda upazila early yesterday.
The deceased, Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, was the alleged chief of a local criminal gang.
A team of police raided Bashbaria area to arrest Nazim around 10pm on Monday. Sensing their presence, Nazim’s cohorts opened fire, prompting the lawmen to retaliate. Nazim sustained bullet wounds and was taken to CMCH where he succumbed early Tuesday.
His cohort Didarul Alam was also arrested. Police seized one 9mm pistol, four bullets and an LG from the spot, police said.
