BCB chief happy to see some local players performing well

Nazmul plans BPL in other districts

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon was excited the way the local players lit up the ongoing BPL, putting the classy foreign players in the shed.

He said the performance of some of the local players has pushed the selectors to include them in the New Zealand bound team despite the team for the tour has already been announced.
“The big achievement of this season’s BPL is that our local players have been playing good. Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim has been playing consistently well. Nasir Hossain played some good knocks,” he told the reporters yesterday.
“There are some old players who also showed a good performance to bring them back to the fore. Amongst them, there are Shahriar Nafees, Mehedi Maruf. They have really enriched our pipeline.”
The BCB boss said he talked to the selectors, coach and cricket operations chairman as to how those players would fit into the squad since the team for the New Zealand tour has already been announced.
“I have talked to coach, selectors, cricket operations chairman Akram Khan as to how they would be fit into the team. They have heard me but didn’t tell anything yet. But I guess some players could join the squad and some will be with the squad as stand by. Let’s see.”
He vowed to spread BPL throughout the country as it is getting popular in every year.
“We have the plan to spread the BPL all over the country. But there are some issues, mainly with accommodation. In Dhaka, Chittagong or Khulna you will get enough hotels to accommodate the players. But I don’t know the condition of Rajshahi or Barisal. But we are adamant to spread it throughout the country.”
Papon said they adopted the approach of ‘go-slow’ with the spin coach at the moment.
“We have enough time in hands. So at the moment, we are not thinking about it. But a spin coach will join the side definitely.”
