Stocks close higher for 3rd session

The country’s prime bourse Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed higher for the third session in a row yesterday as investors were active on banks, engineering and power stocks.

DSEX, the prime index of DSE, finished at 4,698.54, advancing 21.78 points or 0.46 per cent over the previous day.
 The DS30 comprising blue chips advanced 4.65 points or 0.26 per cent to settle at 1,758.45. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 3.02 points or 0.27 per cent to close at 1,122.69.
 The total turnover stood at Tk 6.28 billion, which was 3.45 per cent higher than the previous day’s turnover of Tk 6.07 billion.
 “The market registered a solid run-up in the morning on the heel of price movement in financial stocks”, LankaBangla Securities, a market broker, said.
 The stockbroker noted that stocks turned uneven in the afternoon following some profit booking on the stocks which made significant move in previous sessions. 
“However, some banking stocks gave way to the bull to support the market just below 4700 level,” the stockbroker said.
 IDLC Investments, a merchant bank, said, “Almost  all  the  companies disclosed  their  earning per share (EPS)  of  Q1  2017,  on  the  basis  of  which  investors  continued  to  re-balance  portfolios”.
 The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 293 issues traded, 138 closed higher, 106 closed lower and 49 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
AB Bank led the turnover chart with 13.32 million shares worth above changing hands, followed by GP, Bangladesh Building Systems, Quasem Drycells and RAK Ceramic.
Northern June Manufacturing Company was the day’s best performer, posting a 9.99 per cent gain, while Saif Powertec was the worst loser, slumping by 19.96 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also finished higher  with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX – advancing 45.64 points to settle at 8,805.02 points.
 Gainers beat losers as 115 issues closed higher, 82 closed lower and 34 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 14.21 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth nearly Tk 379 million in turnover.
