The National Fatwa Board of Bangladesh issued a statement yesterday stating that there was no deity in the names mentioned in the Asma ul Husna, 99 beautiful names of Almighty Allah.
As per the statement, Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, a UK-based Bangladeshi writer, had commented that there were deities similar to Allah's beautiful names. “There were no gods or goddesses in the pre-historic religion similar to the name Asmahul Husna (The beautiful abstract names),” the statement read.
“Gaffar Chowdhury commented on the holy names with a personal interest to raise controversy on the Muslim society,” it added.
The board further demanded immediate action to stop comments on religion. Such comments by eminent personalities were hampering religious harmony in society, the Fatwa Board said in the statement.
The statement was signed by Maulana Muhiuddin Khan, Advisor of the Fatwa Board; Prof. Dr. Mufti Yeahyear Rahman, President of the Board and Mufti Dr. Khalilur Rahman Madani, Secretary General, among others.
Meanwhile, Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi yesterday urged the government to strip the citizenship of Gaffar Choudhuty for, what he calls, derogatory and blasphemous remarks on Allah and his Prophet.
Describing it a deep conspiracy against the Muslim statehood of the Bangladeshis, the Hefazat ameer, in a statement, condemned such provocateurs and conspirators against law and order and communal harmony. Shafi also urged the government to resist such elements with an iron hand.
