UAP international collegiate programming contest begins today
University of Asia Pacific (UAP) is going to arrange ACM ICPC Asia Dhaka Regional Contest 2016, (an annual multi-tiered competitive programming competition among the universities of the world) on its campus on November 18 and 19, says a press release.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), UAP, is organising the contest under the leadership of UAP's Vice Chancellor Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, said a press release. A total of 1,665 teams have registered for the online preliminary contest where 1,566 teams from 81 institutes have participated on October 15. Of them, a total of 125 teams will be selected for the main contest. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan will address the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest while ICT Division Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder, and UAP Board of Trustees Chairman Qayum Reza Chowdhury will be present as special guests. On the closing ceremony, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will address as the chief guest, the release added. Professor Dr CJ Hwang, Director of ACM-ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) Asia Regional Contest, will address the contest as special guest, it said.
JU admission tests begin on Nov 19
SAVAR: The admission tests of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for first-year honors courses under the academic session 2016-2017 will begin from Saturday and it will continue till November 23.
According to the admission schedule, the admission test for A unit under Mathematical and Physical Science faculty will be held on November 19 while test of D unit under Biological Sciences faculty will be held on November 20.
The tests for B unit under Social Sciences faculty and H unit under Institution of Information Technology (IIT) will be held on November 21. On the other hand, admission tests for F unit under Law faculty, E unit under Business Studies faculty and G unit under Institute of Business Administration (IBA-JU) will be held on November 22 while admission test for C unit under Arts and Humanities faculty will be held on November 23. A total of 220,298 admission seekers are going to appear the tests against 2,030 seats under 6 units and two institutes while approximately 108 students will vie for each seat, JU deputy register (academic) Muhammad Ali told BSS. The detailed information related to admission test including seat plane and results would be available both in SMS system and in the university website- www.ju-admission.org and www.juniv.edu/admission/, he added.
Int'l seminar on sustainable economic development held at BUP
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) organised a two-day international seminar on Strategic Leadership for Sustainable Economic Development at Bijoy Auditorium on its campus, says a press release.
Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, security affairs advisor to Prime Minister, was the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony on Wednesday while Malcolm HB McDonald, Emeritus Professor of Oxford University, Dr Zahid Hussain, Lead Economist, South Asia Finance and Poverty Group, World Bank, Prof Manoj Pant, Centre for International Trade and Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Prof Raquibul Anwar, Sr Consultant, Colorectal and General Surgery, President and CEO, RAHETID were present as keynote speakers in the seminar. The Chief Guest says that sustainable development is that development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their own needs.
‘MMC Open House’ held at AIUB
The Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC) of American International University - Bangladesh (AIUB) organised a daylong programme titled ‘OPEN HOUSE Programme’ in AIUB FASS Building, Banani, Dhaka on Wednesday to showcase the new media and technologies used in media and journalism education, says a press release.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB Prof Charles C Villanueva inaugurated the programme and delivered his valuable welcome speech.
