Police interrogated at least ten people in two days about the incident of BNP leader Khandakar Mainul Islam, who was found shot dead at his house on Wednesday noon in Rajshahi.
Meanwhile, no case was filed in the incident, till writing this report on Thursday evening.
Confirming the matter, Ifte Khayer Alam, senior assistant commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said they picked up four people, including victim’s son, brother-in-law and two house helps at the incident day. Later, six more people were also called to the police station for more questioning. However; they have been released after the interrogation, Alam said.
Family members of the victim at integration said that “Mainul Islam shot himself dead as he had been suffering from depression for a long time.” However; he was also facing legal action over huge amounts of unpaid loans, he added. Meanwhile, Sahadat Hossain, officer In-charge of Boalia Model Police Station, claimed that ‘There was an attempt to destroy the evidence’. He said police seized a licenced pistol, two empty shells and a blood-stained sandal from the victim’s house in Hoseniganj area. Police found the sandal near the boundary wall of the house and blood marks between the wall and the living room. It’s also created a mystery, OC added.
On the other hand, the namaj-e-janaza of the victim was held at Madrasha field of the city on Thursday noon. And he was laid to rest at Hetemkha graveyard.
Earlier, law enforcers recovered the bullet-hit body of a senior BNP leader cum businessman Khondokar Mainul Islam from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Wednesday noon.
