Woman killed by husband for dowry

A woman was allegedly killed by her husband at West-Noapara Mohalla in Narsingdi town yesterday night following quarrel over payment of dowry.
The deceased has been identified as Shampa Begum, 22, wife of Zahir Uddin of the area.
 Police and witnesses said Zahir used to torture his wife Shampa for dowry.
 Recently, Zahir Uddin demanded Tk 50,000 from Shampa’s father as dowry. On July 5, Zahir sent his wife to his father in-law’s house for bringing the money; but Shampa returned empty handed.
This made Zahiruddin angry and he beat Shampa leaving her severely injured and fled.
Local people rushed her to a private doctor chamber. But the doctor there declared her dead.
A case has been filed with Sadar police station in this connection, but no arrest has so far been made.
