BGB arrests two Indians with Tk 2 notes
Two Indian citizens were recently detained at Benapole border with a suitcase full of two-taka notes.The notes were being taken across the border to be sold to drug addicts and to print fake two-dollar notes. The notes would have been sold for Rs. 5 each. The consignments were worth Tk. 41,600 and Tk. 26,500.The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized the consigments, reported Abdur Rahim, the Benapole correspondent of The Independent TV, yesterday.
The BGB seized the first consignment from Nasimuddin, a resident of Armanpur in 24-Parganas of West Bengal. The other smuggler, arrested on November 10, was Naseruddin of Kolkatas Arman Street. Quoting the police, Rahim said the small-denomination Bangladeshi notes were being sold for Rs. 5 each in India.Earlier, another big consignment of two-taka notes was seized at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka recently. The consignment was on its way to China.Sources claimed that smugglers prefer the crispy notes to roll heroin and Yaba for addicts. Fake currency dealers also have a demand for these.
