6th edition of Dhaka Lit Fest begins today

This month, Dhaka is going to witness a plethora of literary minds, as over 200 writers, of which 60 from 18 different countries, will join the sixth instalment of the Dhaka Literary Festival (DLF) which will begin today and continue till November 19 on the premise of Bangla Academy in the capital.

 The festival is being produced by Jatrik with Bangla Academy as the co-host and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs as special partner. National daily Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune is the title sponsor with Brac Bank serving as platinum sponsor. 
Like the previous years, the festival which was organised as Hay Festival Dhaka until 2015, – will see one of the biggest congregations of more than 60 international writers, representing 18 countries, joining at least 100 Bangladeshi writers and artists in many panels and sessions on literature, culture and politics. 
This year, to pay tribute to late eminent poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haq, a stage performance of  Haq’s short novel ‘Neel Dongshon’ will be staged in at the DLF. 
Among the others, the DLF will have VS Naipaul — a Nobel Laureate in Literature, Vijay Seshadri — a Pulitzer-winning American poet, and Deborah Smith — a 2016 International Man Booker-winning translator, together interacting on many issues ranging from world literature to diaspora literature to feminism to translation of Asian literature.
Moreover, journalists (Max Rodenback, Ben Judah and Bee Rowlatt), travel writers (such as Tim Cope) and Children’s writers (Chador Wangmo and Anthony Mcgowan), not to mention fiction writers (Alex Preston, Amy Sackville, Anjum Hasan, Antara Ganguly and Evie Wild), will find a prominent place at the DLF 2016.
Many new and established faces such as Prabda Yoon from Thailand, Eddin Khoo from Malaysia and Nael Eltoukhy from Egypt, will be seen talking about issues that are usually left out in many international literature festivals.
