Many queries had been raised about the uneven bounce of the wickets of the Sher-e-Bangla National Crciket Stadium (SBNCS) in the last Dhaka phase matches of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the 2016-2017 season.
Those players, who spoke to media at different occasions especially before and after their practice sessions and post-match briefing, told that the bulk of the matches had been a low-scoring affair because of the uneven bounce in the tracks.
They of course admitted that wickets were better than the previous season but somehow they could not bat on the surface. It, however, is possible to make runs 170 or plus on the board. It will not be the same and changed with the pace of the matches.
It will gradually be better that proved in the last few matches, where the scores of the some matches had been a 170-190 runs more affairs.
Opener Tamim Iqbal likes of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan at a post-match conference said that the current wickets had been prepared for the last home series against high-ranked England. So, the nature of the wickets will not be changed abruptly. But it will gradually be better.
Two-times World T20 West Indies champions captain Darren Sammy, Ravi Bopara, Mohammad Nabi, Liam Dawson, Dwayne Bravo like local players voiced the same opinion about the wickets.
But Zahid Reza Babu, curator of the ZACS, said that there will be no uneven bounce in Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS)’s wickets.
He said that he could not tell whether matches will be low-scoring or high-scoring affairs in this ground.
“Wickets here in Chittagong will be better than Dhaka. I couldn’t tell you that matches will be high-scoring affair or not. But there will be no uneven bounce at Zahur Ahmed,” said Zahid Reza.
Babu said that the dew will be a factor for the teams in the second match than the first match of the day.
“Huge dew are falling across Chittagong region. So dew will be a factor for the teams in the day’s second match than the first match. But those team will bat first in the second they will not be affected more than the teams, who bat last,” the curator told The Independent.
