bullet-hit body found

Police recovered the bullet-hit body of a senior Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader cum businessman from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) yesterday noon.

The deceased was Khandakar Mainul Islam, 60, a first class contractor and vice-president of Rajshahi district unit BNP, was taken to the hospital by fire service men at 2pm with bullet-wounds on his head and doctors declared him dead, said Shahdat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Boalia Model Police Station.
He was a former president of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries and general secretary of the District Sports Association.
Mainul was a right-handed man and a bullet pierced his head from left to right side of his head, said Enamul Haque, lecturer of forensic medicine department of Rajshahi Medical College(RMCH) said after performing his autopsy.
“We found two horizontal bullet injury marks just over his ears, the injury over left ear was smaller than opposite injury”, he said.
Quoting the victim’s family members, Shahdat Hossain said the incident might be an act of suicide as he was facing legal action over unpaid loans worth around Tk 56 crore with a private bank.
“We did not reach to a conclusion yet. Detectives, RAB, CID, crime scene experts and senior police officials are interrogating the family members and investigating into the incident”, said the OC.
Police said they seized a licensed pistol, two cartridges, a blood stained sandal from the victim’s house, Hossain added.
Police recovered the sandal from near the boundary wall of the house and found blood strains for some 25 yards from the wall to the lobby room, he said.  
Mainul went out with his wife and hours after returning home at the city’s Hoseniganj area at 1.30pm, Mainul sat on the lobby room of their two-storied duplex house in front of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence office.
Limon, a son of the victim, on Rajshahi Medical College(RMCH) premises told reporters that his father shot himself sitting on a chair and he was suffering from depression since long.
Fireman of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence office Ezharul Islam said, “We rushed to the house when we heard people screaming and the family members carried a blood stained Mainul to the main gate with appeal for taking him to hospital.
Ariful Islam, a doctor of Rajshahi Medical College(RMCH) emergency, said he died before taken to the hospital and he was bleeding profusely.
