A tribunal in the capital yesterday convicted two men and sentenced them to death for killing a man in 2013, reports UNB.
The condemned convicts are: Shamser, son of Mohammad Nausha, and Lalu, son of Mohammad Aminul, both residents of Pallabi in the capitals Mirpur area and butchers by profession. The tribunal also fined them Tk 20,000 each.
According to the prosecution, the convicts strangled their friend Anis to death over previous enmity on February 7, 2013. Mohammad Omar Faruk, brother of the deceased, filed a case with Pallabi Police Station on the following day.
M Yeasin Gazi, sub-inspector of Pallabi Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted charge-sheet against the duo to the court on February 7, 2014. After examining the records and witnesses, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar passed the order.
Another report adds from Gazipur: Two people were sentenced to death by a court here for killing a man by pushing him down from a running train in the city this year.The condemned convicts are Russell Miah, son of Hablu Miah of Tarati-Charpara village in Mymensingh, and Munna Miah, son of late Hossain Miah of Gangpara village in Moulvibazar district. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.
According to the prosecution, a group of miscreants, including Russell and Munna, snatched cash and a mobile phone set from Abdul Momin, of Noagaon district, after beating and chopping him on the rooftop of a Chittagong-bound train from Dhaka at Shimulia rail gate in Gazipur on the night of March 22.
When some passengers tried to resist them the muggers pushed three passengers, including Momin, down from the running train, leaving Momin dead on the spot and two others injured. Police filed a case with Bhoirab Railway Police Station the following day.
On July 31, police submitted a chargesheet against the two accusedRussell and Munnato a court after an investigation. After examining the witnesses and documents, Judge of Gazipur district and Session Judges court AKM Enamul Haque handed down the verdict in the presence of the accused.
