Teachers role vital to student awareness

RAJSHAHI: Highlighting the importance of making the adolescents aware on reproductive health speakers at a dialogue unanimously said teachers can play a vital role towards disseminating the idea among students, reports BSS.
They viewed education on reproductive health for the secondary level students should be disseminated properly.
Local unit of Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) organised the dialogue titled Sexual and Reproductive Health for School Students at its office yesterday, where government officials and teachers attended.
District Education Officer Rafiqul Islam and Upazila Family Planning Officer Sohel Rana addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with FPAB District Officer Arun Shil in the chair.
Ensuring adolescent-friendly reproductive health services has become an urgent need for making the adolescents free from various misconceptions related to reproductive health.
The speakers narrated importance of learning about physical change at the juncture of age, sexual and reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases, premature pregnancy and complicacy during pregnancy, safe delivery and motherhood and other related issues.
Various issues on how to create awareness among the adolescents about physical change, sexual and reproductive health, hygiene, nutrition, dowry, child marriage for their normal and safer growth and preventing social crimes were discussed in the meeting.
They said adolescent reproductive health is one of the most sensitive health issues. They added that the best ways and means should be devised to ensure adolescent-friendly services to the students.
Arun Shil said the FPAB has been implementing various motivational programmes for welfare of the youths in terms of their reproductive and sexual health. It has, so far, brought around 20,000 students of 42 secondary students in Paba Upazila of the district under sexual and reproductive health education during the last two years.
