On the occasion of newly appointed Awami League Secretary General and Minister for Roads, Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader’s visit to Kushtia through Jessore and Jhenidah, a dilapidate road was repairing in Jhenidah highway.
The workers were working in the road to mend it as the minister will going through them. All of a sudden a speeding Kushtia-bound truck crashed a worker-laden trolley of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) at Bishoykhali Bazar in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila yesterday morning, leaving seven workers injured. The injured were sent to Sadar Hospital where Nannu Mia, 50, hailed from Bazrapur village in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah, succumbed to his injuries.
Roads and Highways Department, Jhenidah, Executive Engineer Selim Azad Khan said different roads in the district are in dilapidated condition. The road has been repairing as Minister Obaidul Quader is coming. The accident took place in that time.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Horendra Nath Sarker said police seized the truck.
The injured are—Abu Taleb, 30, son of Bisharat Ali from Durapur village in Sadar upazila, Oliar, 22, son of Abul Kashem in Betai village, Ali Raj, 25, son of Abu Taleb, Sumon Mia, 20, son of Mojibar Rahman, Sohagh Uddin, 30, son of Jashim Uddin in Chapail village under Kaliganj upazila and Nayan Mia, 24, son of Khokon Mia in Dhakale Para area.
