A Sylhet court has taken into cognisance the charge sheet against Badrul Alam in the case over attack on college girl Khadiza Begum Nargis. Syeda Shirin Akther, the counsel for the plaintiff, said the court of the Additional Chief Magistrate of Sylhet has fixed November 29 for the framing of the charges. On October 3, Sylhet Government Women's College student Khadiza Begum Nargis was brutally hacked in broad daylight and critically injured by Badrul. After being hospitalised, she remained on life support for several days before regaining consciousness. Badrul reportedly carried out the attack over Khadiza’s rejection of his love proposal. He was caught red-handed by people who witnessed the incident and was handed over to the police. A video footage of Badrul hacking Khadiza went viral on social media triggering mass protests across the country and in academic campuses. Khadiza is now under treatment at Dhaka's Square Hospital and doctors said her condition is gradually improving. Badrul, a final year student of Economics in SUST, was later expelled by the University authorities. Bangladesh Chhatra League has also suspended him.
