A Dhaka court yesterday granted a 6-day remand of Rubel Afsan Rahman, the prime accused in Garo girl rape case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sabbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order after Sub-inspector of Badda Thana Fiam Mamun, also investigation officer of the case, produced Rubel before the court seeking a 10-day remand for interrogation. In the petition, police said the accused needs to be grilled to arrest the others accused in the case. Earlier, police re-arrested Rubel Afsan Rahman, 26, from Badda area three days after he fled from a Dhaka court while in police custody. Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP said Rubel was arrested from Badda area in the capital early yesterday after he fled from police custody on November 13. Badda police SI Imranul Haque and constable Dipok have been suspended for the negligence of duty over the incident. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rubel from Airport Railway Station area on November 11 in connection with the rape of a minority Garo girl in Badda area last month. Later, he was handed over to local police. On November 13, Badda police took Rubel to the court for his confessional statement but Rubel managed to flee.
