Bangladesh Premier league (BPL), the glorious and cash-rich T20 tournament of the country, gradually started jelling. After the end of its first phase in Dhaka, the second phase in Chittagong is going to be staged from November 17. All the franchisee team already landed at the port city and begun their practice sessions at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium and Chittagong Women Sports Complex.
Rangpur Riders, Rajshahi Kings and Khulna Titans left Dhaka for Chittagong to play the second phase matches of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Monday.
The rest of the franchisee teams including Dhaka Dynamites, Comilla Victorians, Chittagong Vikings and Barisal Bulls reached yesterday after the end of their last Dhaka phase matches, which has been finished with the match between Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS).
So far 13 matches have been decided, where Dhaka Dynamites are on the pole position with six points. Barisal Bulls and Khulna Titans also earned the identical six points but Dynamites placed on top due to better net run-rate and Bulls alongside Titans held the second and third position respectively. Rangpur Riders are languishing on fourth place with four points. Rajshahi kings and Chittagong Vikings became fifth and sixth, while defending champions Comilla Victorians, who are yet to triumph any match, remained in bottom. Rajshahi Kings and Rangpur Riders played three matches each, while Dhaka Dynamites, Comilla Victorians, Barisal Bulls, Khulna Titans and Chittagong Vikings played four matches apiece.
Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) will host all the 11 matches of the second phase in six days. This phase in Chittagong will start with the match between Dhaka Dynamites and Chittagong Vikings on November 17 and will end with the match between Barisal Bulls and Chittagong Vikings on November 22.
At Dhaka phase, Shahriar Nafees of Barisal Bulls made the highest scores of 184 with the best 65. Mushfiqur Rahim, captain of Bulls, scored the second highest of 174 with 81 not out was his highest score. Mehedi Maruf of Dynamites, Sabbir Rahman of Kings and Tamim Iqbal of Vikings are in third, fourth and fifth position with 170, 157 and 143 runs respectively. Of them, Mushfiq entered into the 1,000-run club of BPL as the first player. Sabbir struck the best-ever highest of 122 in BPL breaking the previous record of Chris Gayle who made 116. Shafiul Islam of Vikings and Mohammad Shohid of Dynamites claimed the highest eight wickets each. Shahid Afridi of Riders, Mohammad Nabi of Vikings and Junaid Khan of Titans snapped up seven wickets apiece to place third, fourth and fifth.
The third phase including the play-off and final will be also staged in Dhaka. The third phase will kick off on November 25 with two days break.
