Bangladesh has laid emphasis on cooperation between public and private sectors to ensure safe, orderly and regular migration globally, and smooth management of migration issues, reports UNB.
“The world in 2030 will be people’s world,” said Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque while addressing a dialogue on global migration compact at the UN Headquarters in New York Monday.
Bangladesh is the current chair of Global Forum for Migration and Development (GFMD).
UN Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Inter-Agency Affairs Thomas Gass, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Masud Bin Momen, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Riaz Hamidullah and international stakeholders took part in the discussion.
They discussed in details the global migration compact on three broad perspectives - social, economic and legal issues, said a PID handout yesterday.
The ninth GFMD Summit is scheduled to be held in Dhaka on December 10-12 under the overarching theme, ‘Migration that Works for Sustainable Development for All: Towards a Transformative Migration Agenda’.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Summit on December 10, said an official at the Foreign Ministry.
Bangladesh has sought support from the international community to make the forthcoming GFMD Summit a success by ensuring the participation of high-level officials.
