CU golden jubilee celebration begins Nov 18
CHITTAGONG: Chittagong University (CU) is going to celebrate its 50 years of founding anniversary on Friday and Saturday in a befitting manner.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the two-day golden jubilee celebration through a video conference while Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will address the function as the chief guest on the second day.
This was disclosed by CU Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury at a press conference held at World Trade Centre conference room this noon.
The VC in his written statement informed the journalists that Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman will deliver memorial speech at the function while Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossian, MP, Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, MP, State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, MP, State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, MP, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Chittagong city Awami League President and former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Dr Abdul Mannan will attend the function as special guests.
The two-day celebration will begin through a colourful rally from CU Fine Arts Institute on city's Badsha Meah Road at 3pm on Friday. The rally will parade different streets of the city and conclude at Shirish Tola in CRB area. First day's programme was also include ‘Welcome Night’, traditional ‘Chittagongnian Mejban’ and cultural function at GEC Convection Centre in the city. Besides, second day of the celebration will begin at CU central field through the video conference of the prime minister. Second day's programmes included discussion and cultural function. CU sources said nearly 10 thousand alumni and more than 20 thousand existing students of the university registered to participate in the function.

Presidency University gets new VC
Professor Dr Matiur Rahman has been appointed as the vice-chancellor (VC) of the Presidency University, Bangladesh, says a press release. 
President Abdul Hamid and the Chancellor of the university has extended his kind consent to appoint the Dr Matiur as VC. 
Dr. Rahman is a retired professor of the Department of Statistics, Bio-statistics and Informatics, University of Dhaka. After completion of studies at the University of Dhaka, Dr Rahman has studied in Germany, Russia and Australia. Dr.Rahman has teaching experiences at 12 universities/institutes, including Monash University, Australia. He has over 70 research papers accepted in national and international journals in addition to book publications with UGC Bangladesh, Bangla Academy, Mallick Brothers, Edexcel and Jharna publishers.  Dr Rahman has work experience in over 80 research projects. His research papers have been accepted in International conferences in 30 countries of the world and he has presented his papers in Bangladesh, Russia, Australia, India, Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia and US. 

Training programme held at DIU
Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Daffodil International University (DIU) organised a training of trainers programme on “Higher Education for Autistic Person” on Saturday at DIU auditorium, says a press release. 
Professor Abdul Mannan, chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) attended the programme as the chief guest. Professor Dr Md Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, Vice-chancellor, Islamic University, Kushtia and Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, Pro-Vice-chancellor Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) were present as the special guests. Prof Dr Yousuf M Islam, Vice-chancellor, Daffodil International University presided over the programme. Professor Muhammad Mahaboob Ali, PhD, Director, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) presented the keynote paper.   

Int’l seminar of regional network on poverty eradication starts at BAU
MYMENSINGH: A three-day international seminar of Regional Network on Poverty Eradication (RENPER) with a theme of “Advancement in technology for poverty reduction: opportunity and challenges’’ has started at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh.
The inaugural session of the seminar was held at the Shilpacharya Jainul Abedin auditorium of the university yestrday. 
Former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Mohammed Farashuddin attended the inaugural session as the chief guest while deputy Vice-chancellor of the University Malaysia Kelantan and also the chairman of RENPER Prof Dato Dr Ibrahim Bin Che Omar attended as the special guest. BAU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar was present as the chief patron with Prof Dr M Afzal Hossain, chairman of the organising committee, in the chair.
