Female student goes missing 
A female student of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) has reportedly gone missing for the last eight days.
The missing student was identified as Oishee Hamom, an Honours 4th year student of the Fisheries Department and daughter of Sonaton Hamom, hailing from Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar district. Shahjalal Munshi, officer-in-charge of Shah Poran Police Station in Sylhet, said Oishee used to live in the university hostel. 

AL leader SM Yusuf dies
CHITTAGONG: Former Awami League education and research affairs secretary and Liberation War organiser SM Yusuf passed away at a hospital in the capital early yesterday. He was 74, reports UNB.
Yusuf, who was undergoing treatment at United Hospital with various diseases, including respiratory problems, breathed his last in the early hours, district (South) AL general secretary Mafizur Rahman told UNB. Yusuf left behind wife, one son and one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
His body was kept at the mortuary of the United Hospital, he said. Yusuf was a commander of ‘Mujib Bahini’ in Chittagong region during the Liberation War.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Yusuf. She recalled Yusuf’s role with gratitude in building a movement after the assassination of Bangabandhu in August 15, 1975. The Prime Minister prayed for salvation of the departed soul and expressed sypathy for the bereaved family members.

Liberation War e-archive starts its journey
Muktijuddho E-Archive, a digital public library on the 1971 Liberation War, have been launched on Monday.
Educationist Shyamali Nasreen Chowdhury, widow of martyred intellectual Dr AFM Alim Chowdhury, inaugurated the e-archive at a function at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) Conference Lunge in the capital. “The e-archive will help the young generation and others to know the true history of the country’s Liberation War. The nation cannot be freed completely from the darkness even today as military ruler Ziaur Rahman initiated the distortion of the country’s history,” she said.

4 held for fraudulence 
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in an overnight raid arrested four Nigerian citizens, members of an international fraud gang, while swindling a huge amount of money from people in Uttara in the capital, said a RAB press release.
The arrested were identified as Kelchi Prince John, 40, Nkem Samuel Azubuike, 35, Denis Okwudiri alias Chief, 40, and Ebrahim, 29. The gang used to deceive people saying that they had won lotteries, it said. RAB recovered six laptops, 28 mobile phones, 10 modems, 36 foreign and Bangaldeshi SIM cards, and nine credit cards, two debit cards, US $ 120, Taka 70,850 and Naira 15,450 (Nigerian currency) from their possession.

Nabanna Utsav celebrated 
The Barisal district administration organised a daylong programme yesterday to celebrate ‘Nabanna Utsav’, a festival observed and celebrated by the rural people of Bangladesh on the 1st day of Agrahayan, a month of Bengali calendar, on the occasion of new crop harvesting.
The programme began yesterday morning in Durga Sagar area of the city. ‘Matua Sampradaya’, the agriculture worker and farmer sector of Hindu community and followers of Shri Shri Hari-Guruchand, took  part in the programme with colorful presentation.  On this occasion the district administration arranged day long programmes including discussion on Bengali culture, meeting, religious rituals, cultural functions, special ‘Nabanna Feast’ farmers reception and colorful procession on city roads.   A procession was brought out on the city road, led by DC Barisal Gazi Md Saifuzaman, and paraded main roads of the city.
