Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) yesterday seized a car worth around Tk60 lakh from city’s Chatteshwari Road on charge of evading revenue.
The SUV red coloured Mini Cooper, 1600cc car, which chassis no WMWRC 32060TES03766, was running in the road without registration from Bangladesh Road and Transport Authority (BRTA). It was imported evading revenue, said CIID.
“Acting on trip-off the car was seized from a house of businessman of Chatteshwari road. If was running in road without registration. The owner could not show any legal documents of importing the car. We are suspecting the car was imported under carnet facilities (under a facility meant only for tourists), which was supposed to back abroad after a certain time,” said Dr Moinul Khan, director general of CIID in a message to The Independent.
“After keeping the car under vigilance and checking its document it was seized.
Under Customs Act 1969 punitive action was lodged against it and the car was handover to custom house,” added Moinul in the message.
Mentionable that CIID seized two SUVs worth about Tk11 crore in separate drives in Sheuli Petrol Pump and Amirbag area of the city, on August 1this year. These cars also imported under carnet facilities.
