The general average inflation rate reached 6.41 percentage points in the fiscal year (FY) 2014-15, down from 7.35 percentage points in the previous fiscal due to a downtrend in global fuel prices and a stable exchange rate.
The information was given by Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while releasing the Monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) after a meeting of the ECNEC at the NEC-II at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the city yesterday.
The Planning Minister said that the government had set a target to bring down inflation at 6.50 percentage points in the last fiscal and that the target had been fulfilled. “This was on account of the downtrend witnessed in global fuel prices and other major items along with a stable exchange rate,” he said.
However, the general point to point inflation rate increased to 6.25 percentage points up in June this year, up from 6.19 percentage points registered in May. The rate in April was 6.32 percentage points.
