Du Plessis looks to repeat feat in ODI series

Sports Reporter

Visiting South Africa were successful in denting the Bangladesh’s confidence, going into the ODI series, as the hosts were brimming in confidence, trouncing sub-continent giant India and Pakistan. The visitors needed to make a statement and they rightly did it by wrapping up the T20 series by 2-0 with a yet another comfortable victory in the second match. “Definitely they batted incredibly well against Pakistan and India and so their confidence would have been sky high. So, it was important for us as a team to try to put an end to that confidence and we did it as a team,” South Africa captain Faf Du Plessis said yesterday. But Du Plessis refused to be relaxed, going into the ODI series, stating that they couldn’t underestimate any team in the international circuit.
“It’s good going into the one day series. But I also appreciate and understand that one-day cricket is a different format. So, we’ll go back to making sure we prepare really well for the one day series. Because every game we will never  undervalue team we play against. So, we did really well. And then hopefully we can do more of the same in the one-day series,” Du Plessis added.
He praised his players for their outstanding performance and believed they showed an exceptionally good performance in tough condition to beat the high flying Bangladesh.
“We played exceptionally well once again. In tough wicket, we got 170 (169) which was nice. Bangladesh batted better today and did try to learn from the mistakes in the first game but we had all the answers from a bowling point of view,” said Faf de Plessis.
“(We are) really proud of the boys. Extremely tough conditions to beat Bangladesh 2-0 like that. It is great job. Everyone put their hand up and so it’s a good way to start the tour,” Du Plessis who was adjudged man of the series opined.
He said that they got the confidence to play against the sub-continent teams from IPL, where South African players have been regularly performing.
“IPL is probably the biggest reasons for South Africans to play so well in the sub-continent conditions. I think over a period of time in the IPL if you look South African cricketers are generally really consistent in the IPL so we take lot of confidence in that when we go into other tours, when we play against teams like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India,” he pointed out.
