Despite regular deployment of police and local vigilant teams, a Hindu family was once more attacked at B’baria’s Nasirnagar upazila. The incident occurring day before yesterday was the second in line of arson attacks targeting the minority community after the enormous onslaught on them and their houses and temples on October 30. Triggering countrywide and global condemnation, the attackers are still at large while operating by following newer tactics. The need of the minute is not only to identify the culprits but to uncover their entire network which is carrying out the intermittent attacks while crackdown on its organisational strength. Noticeably, the fresh spate of attacks were reported to be carried out just after 10 minutes of a patrolling vigilant team had passed by the targeted area and the marked point here – attackers too , are also following the movement of law enforcing and vigilant teams with or without tip-offs from insiders. The police have so far reportedly arrested 78 people in two cases filed after the October 30 attack while cases were filed against some 1,200 unknown persons , but the self-assurance and sheer defiance showed by perpetrators’ on the recent attack signals that, they now challenge as well as undermine the strength of our law enforcing establishments.
The solution, before spending too much time analysing the reason behind the attacks, is not too complex – deploy the military and its co-ordinated intelligence wings. Bring the entire locality under a constant scanner; therefore trace the root of all their planning. We believe, the frequency of such communal attacks cannot be based on mere extreme hatred, but well-planned synchronization too.
The latest attacks at Brahmanbaria have seriously escalated tension and fear among the members of the Hindu community while drawing global attention. These cannot be stopped by closing down nearby madrasas and mosques, but by deactivating communications and strategic planning of assailants; identifying and arresting them. Manifestly, they are not only the enemy of Hindus, but the enemy of state itself.
Moreover it is also believed by many that a conspiracy has been hatched over Brahmanbaria with a view to deriving political benefit by creating panic among the Hindu community. Whoever is politically responsible for being the beneficiary of these repeated communal attacks must be immediately identified. Like always before, we severely condemn the recurring attacks on our minority communities and the government must respond to it with additional alacrity.
We should not any how feel threatened by a series of radicalised onslaughts practised by a few. Our secular fabric has not only been tearing apart, but our global image too is getting tarnished by the hour. Protecting our Hindus has now become a do or die situation. In protecting their rights, we stand united.
