Students of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, Dhaka University (DU) demonstrated a protest and staged a street play at the DU campus on Thursday to protest against communal violence and ethnic oppression in many localities of Bangladesh.The performance was initiated by playwright and director Shahman Moishan, who also devised and directed the play ‘Ami Malaun Bolchhi’. A huge number of audiences consisting the teachers and students from various departments of the university participated and witnessed the performance.
The street performance ‘Ami Malaun Bolchhi’ demonstrated ‘malaun’ is not a slang term, but the identification mark of the oppressed. The performance constituted that the spirit of the Liberation War to make sure the equilibrium of all peoples belonging multiple religions and ethnicities. Shahman Moishan--assistant professor, Department of Theatre and Performance Studies--said that when darkness of evil grasps the time, the university teachers-students should come out from the class rooms to enlighten the human race with their knowledge.
