Youths urged to uphold communal harmony

UNB

Tangail: Mentioning that Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, President Abdul Hamid yesterday called upon the young generation to move forward upholding the country’s this tradition, reports UNB. “The young generation has to know the glowing history of the Liberation War. You have to know the past where the roots of Bengails lie. I believe communalism won’t grip any young mind if the social responsibility and the dream of wining the truth become the target,” he said.
The president said this while addressing the second convocation of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology on its campus in Tangail.
A total of 1486 students received degrees at the convocation while 43 were awarded for their outstanding performance.
The news of the involvement of a few teachers and students of university level apart from some derailed youths in militancy tarnished not only the image of the universities but also the entire nation, observed the president.
“Those who are instigating the meritorious youths into militancy and terrorist acts must be identified and rooted out. Simultaneously, strict discipline, holding regular examination and publication of results, sports and cultural activities must be ensured at universities. ”
Pointing at the graduates, the president, also the chancellor of the university, said, “Now you’re graduates, valuable human resources of the country. So, your responsibility towards your family, society, country, nation and the world humanity has been increased further.  The contributions of labourers, farmers and common people are not insignificant in any way behind your achievements.”
“So, you have some responsibilities to them. You’re indebted to them.  This debt will be repaid to some extent if you work for the development of the country through your achieved knowledge and merit.”
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, UGC Chairman Abdul Mannan and MBSTU VC Prof Dr Alauddin spoke on the occasion.
Professor Emeritus Dr Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin delivered speech as the convocation speaker.
