After getting huge response from taxpayers in the Income Tax Fair 2016, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is now thinking about holding such fair in each upazila of the country in the coming days, reports UNB.
“We’re thinking to hold this fair in all upazilas of the country to fetch more revenue through brining more eligible people under the tax net,” said an NBR senior official NBR.
The NBR has fetched Tk 2129.67 crore from the weeklong Income Tax Fair this year that started on November 1.
According to the NBR, some 9,28,973 people avail themselves of various services from the tax fair. Of the total, 1,94,98 submitted their income tax returns at the fair.
A total of 36,853 people took new tax identification numbers (TINs) from the fair this year.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, who inaugurated the fair in Dhaka, also inaugurated the online tax returns filing system at the fair.
The fair also took place in the district towns for four days and in 29 upazilas for two days between November 1 and November 7. The NBR also held it in 57 upazilas through mobile vans.
The NBR official said they want to create such an atmosphere where the taxpayers will be able to pay their tax easily.
He also mentioned that the NBR has already started the process to give e-TIN from the union parishad.
The Income Tax Fair started in 2010 in Dhaka and Chittagong. In that fair, NBR bagged Tk 113 crore. Some 52,554 people submitted their income tax returns, 5638 took TINs while 60,512 availed of various services.
The NBR for the first time in 2015 expanded its area of the fair in 2015 up to the upazila level. Apart from the 64 districts, it held the fair in 86 upazilas.
