Ctg batsmen urged to play due role

Nabi thinks of beating Barisal today

Chittagong Vikings made a flying star beating defending champions Comilla Victorians by 29 runs in the curtain raiser of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the 2016-17 season. But they could not carry on the momentum losing back-to-back two matches against Rangpur Riders by nine wickets and Khulna Titans by four runs.

Now they will face-off Barisal Bulls the fourth and last match of the first part of Dhaka phase at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) at 2pm today.
The bulk of the Vikings’ players attended practice session at National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground to hone their skills and techniques for the next match.
They want to claw back to winning ways before going to the second phase at their home turf.
They all know that their back has been pushed to the wall following the two successive drubbing. So, they are focusing only on the next match forgetting the biting memories of the past matches.
“We lost two games of the three games and last game was bad luck for the team. We didn’t chase the six runs off the six balls. That was hard luck,” said Mohammad Nabi, who struck 226 runs off 24 matches.
“Inshaallah, we will try our best in tomorrow’s game and make good plan for the opponent to win the game,” Nabi told media before their practice session.
Citing Barisal Bulls as the stronger side, Afghanistan all-rounder said that they have to play their better performance to win the match.
“Bulls had a good team and balanced team. We just try our best and play our natural game. Along with that, we will try to put our pressure on our opponent team,” the 31-year-old all-rounder said.
Drawing a comparison between the current pitches and the previous pitches in BPL, Nabi, who played for Sylhet and then Rangpur Riders in the previous edition, said that the present time wickets are better, where is possible to put on 150-160 on the board. “Comparing with last BPL, this is better wickets this time. Hopefully it is not big hitting wickets. But it is good for batting to put few runs on the board. 150-160 is possible,” the offbreak bowler-cum-batsman said, adding “But if you apply your plan first sixteen overs and then you can go for big shots. It’s possible to score about 150-160. That’s the good score for everyone. I think this time pitches will be better more.”
“It’s not all the time. Anyone makes big scores. Sometimes it will be chaseable or not chaseable. Dhaka pitches all the times remain the same. We didn’t take all the chances every time to hit the ball.”
Vikings captain Tamim Iqbal put his anger on batsmen for their shocking defeat, stating that their batsmen did not follow their repeated instruction.
“He didn’t anger at players. Everyone knows where their mistakes were. We have tried our best to put our batting what we didn’t apply until now and that top five had to click. Now we will try our best to do our batting strength,” the experienced Nabi said.
