RU convocation: Ex-students demand reduction of registration fees
Former students of different departments, who completed their Masters, MBBS, BDS, M.Phil and PhD degrees from 2011 to 2014 (four years) from the Rajshahi University (RU), yesterday demanded to reduce the registration fees for the upcoming 10th convocation which has fixed TK-3,750 each.
This fees is at least Tk 1,000 higher than others public varsities of the country, they claimed. Some former students those have finished their master’s degree last one year but not employed yet appealed to the university authority yesterday. In the written statement they urged the administration to consider the matter and reduce the fees rate. Earlier last year RU authority took fees Tk 3,500 for the 9th convocation. They also mentioned that Tk-3,750 is “too high” while the registration has opened from November 3 and to be continued till 30. Merajul Al-Ameen, a recently passed student of Finance Department, expressed his dissatisfaction and said “A good number of participants in the upcoming convocation are unemployed or doing part-time jobs. So such high rate fees for convocation are a burden for them”. While talking Prof. Mizanur Rahman, student adviser of the university said, in the past years most of the participants desired to take away the convocation kits including gowns and hats. For this reason giving them such kits, we are taking additional money as fees in the convocation.
