Marcia Bernicat, US ambassador to Bangladesh, yesterday visited icddr,b in the capital, says a press release.
During her day long visit she was briefed about icddr,b and its work on cholera and vaccine studies, tuberculosis, strategic partnership for enhancing outbreak response and surveillance capacity, influenza surveillance, and anthropological approaches in developing public health interventions and delivery. She also visited Dhaka hospital, different laboratories and met with several scientists of icddr,b.
In her remarks Ms Bernicat said, “The collaboration between the United States and icddr,b goes back to the centre’s founding days. We are proud to see the many sectors from the USA supporting icddr,b including government, academia and civil society. I am profoundly impressed to see the progress and the impact this organisation has made and continues to make in global public health for more than 50 years. We all have an important role to play in developing and scaling up public health solutions for the most vulnerable in this world. Bangladesh is a focus country for the US Government’s key development efforts on global health and we count on icddr,b’s research and innovation.”
icddr,b’s Executive Director Professor John D Clemens and Senior Directors welcomed Ms Bernicat.
