RAJSHAHI: Speakers stressed on role of media towards reaching the services of family planning, maternal-infant and adolescent health to the target group of people including the grassroots population. There is an urgent need of bringing all the fertile couples and others concerned under the services. So, all quarters including the media both print and electronics should come forward and work together.
The observations came in an advocacy meeting and press-briefing held at the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute (FWVTI) in Rajshahi city yesterday, reports BSS. Department of Family Planning (DFP) organised the event to mark its forthcoming ‘Family Planning, Mother-Infant-Juvenile Health Service and Campaign Week-2016. It is scheduled to be observed in all unions, upazilas and districts simultaneously from November 12 to 17, 2016. Divisional Director of DFP Malay Kumar Roy addressed the discussion as chief guest with its Deputy Director Dr Nasim Akhter in the chair. Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Farhana Haque and Principal of FWVTI Faridul Haque spoke as resource persons. The discussants observed that collective efforts of all government and non-government organisations concerned is very crucial to make all the fertile couples conscious about family planning.
Ensuring adolescent-friendly reproductive health services is also important for making the adolescents aware relating to reproductive health and aspects of planned family.
Highlighting the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning activities, the speakers underlined the need for giving top priority to motivating the fertile couples so that they could control their unwanted pregnancy through using contraceptives. “Antenatal care and institutional delivery are considered as the effective means of preventing various types of high risk factors like pre-eclampsia, post-eclampsia, ante-partum hemorrhage, post-partum hemorrhage and obstructed labor,” added Islam. Malay Kumar said there is no way, but to create public awareness about aspects of planned family and that is very important to attain the cherished goal. Role of media is vital in this regard.
