One to die for murder

RANGPUR: A court here on Wednesday sentenced one person  to death and five others life term rigorous imprisonment for murdering a  farmer in village Chhoto Zilia under Pirgachha upazila here more than nine years ago, reports BSS.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of Court-2 of Rangpur Abu Jafar Mohammad Kamruzzaman handed down the verdict in presence of the convicted persons. Among the convicted persons, Hasen Ali awarded death sentence, while Hanif Mian, Raju, Abdus Salam, Shahidul Islam and Rehana Begum would suffer life term rigorous imprisonment. According to prosecution, a group of miscreants led by Hasen Ali of  village Chhoto Zilia chopped farmer Abul Kashem, son of Gadu Fakir of the same village to death following previous enmity on July 23 in 2007.
Shamsul Alam, brother of victim Abu Kashem, filed a murder case in this connection accusing 10 persons with Pirgachha Thana. After investigation into the case, Pirgachha Thana police submitted  charge sheets against all of the 10 accused persons. 
 After examining 13 witnesses and other evidences of the case during  hearing, the court found six guilty and announced the verdict against them in their presence. The court acquitted four other charge sheeted persons Moynul Islam,  Rabiul Islam, Abdus Samad and Abdul Matin as the charges brought against them were not proved during the trial. 
Additional Public Prosecutor of Rangpur Advocate Faruk Md Rezaul Karim stood for the state while senior lawyer Advocate Abdul Haque Pramanik defended the accused.
