BNP leader for resistance against Rampal plant

UNB

Accusing the government of trying to set up Rampal power plant to protect India’s interest only to cling to power, BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy yesterday said there is no alternative to resisting it through a movement, reports UNB.
“There’s no other option, but to put up a strong resistance against Rampal thermal power plant,“ he said.
Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, came up with the comment while speaking at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club, arranged by BNP’s forest and environment wing.
Mentioning that Rampal power plant is a seriously harmful project for the country, he said the government has taken the anti-people project only to appease the neighbouring country.
The BNP leader alleged that the government has put the country in gamble only to secure its power. “This power plant is more necessary for the government to stay in office than producing power. Terming Rampal power plant an abandoned project, he said the people of India and Sri Lanka did not allow it to set up in their countries.  “This project has now been imposed on Bangladesh.”
Gayeshwar called upon all to come forward to save the country and Sundarbans. “The destruction of Sundarbans means the ruination of Bangladesh. So, we must be there in the field to resist the power plant.”
The BNP leader alleged that the government is taking big projects to indulge in massive corruption and plundering.
Pointing at BNP leaders and activists, he said, “We’ve been on the streets for 10 years. BNP will also be there for 20 more years if necessary for protecting the country’s interests. People will keep BNP alive, if we work for their welfare.”
