The government has asked the field level officials to prepare themselves in the principle of ‘zero death’ policy at disasters, disaster management and relief minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said yesterday.
“Officials concerned will be trained both home and abroad to build up capacity building to face the risk of disasters. Bangladesh will play a leading role across the globe to face the risk of disasters. So, officials should be prepared considering the consequence of disasters,” the minister said while distributing certificates among the officials held at the capital’s disaster management directorate in Mohakhali.
A total of 25 officials of the directorate of disaster management took part in a training programme on how to face the risk of disasters.
“Bangladesh is moving towards a zero death policy as per commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. So, field level officials have to take preparation considering the Prime Minister’s promise,” Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said.
Besides preparing for the disasters, the officials concerned should have to send the report of damages due to disasters as soon as possible to forward them to the centre, the minister said.
“Attention must be paid to the disasters affected people to reduce loss of live and property avoiding the traditional system to distribute relief materials after the disasters. Disabled, women and children should be given priority to rescue and rehabilitate them in any disaster,” the disaster management and relief minister said.
Among others, disaster management and relief secretary Mohammad Shah Kamal and director general of the directorate of disaster management Riaz Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
