Land official caught in the act by ACC

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday caught a land official in Tangail red-handed while taking bribe.
An eight-member ACC team, led by its director Nasim Anwar, arrested assistant land officer of Bhuapur Upazila Land Office Md Ansar Ali from his office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
Md Abdul Karim, a villager, recently went to the local land office for mutation of his land, but Ansar Ali demanded Tk 10,000 for his job. Later, he agreed to do so at Tk 5,000. The victim then submitted a written compliant against the land official with the Commission.
In consultation with the ACC officials, the plaintiff went to the land office again yesterday afternoon to give Ansar Ali Tk 5,000 in bribe. While receiving the money, the ACC team caught him red-handed.
Later in the day, ACC assistant director Ramprasad Mondal of Tangail Zila office filed a case against the land official with Bhuapur Police Station in connection with the incident.
Another report adds: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday also caught an official of the Roads and Highways Department red-handed in the act of taking bribe.
An eight-member ACC team, led by its director Nasim Anwar, arrested assistant state officer of the department (Tejgaon) Md Jahurul Haque from Tejgaon Industrial Area on Wednesday afternoon, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
Official sources said Md Salahuddin, a freedom fighter, earlier submitted an allegation to the Commission saying that Jahurul Haque along with some 30 officials of the Roads and Highways Department came to his Mirpur home in October last with an eviction notice.
He threatened Salahuddin that if he does not give money, his family must be evicted from his home. He also demanded Tk 2 lakh from Salauddin and the freedom fighter agreed to give him Tk 45,000.
In consultation with the ACC officials, the plaintiff went to Tejgaon on Wednesday afternoon to give Jahurul the first installation of Tk 15,000 in bribe.
While receiving the money, the ACC team caught the roads and highways officials red-handed.
Later on Wednesday, ACC assistant director Md Monirul Haque filed a case against Jahurul with Tejgaon Police Station in connection with the incident.
