The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) gave Nasir Hossain a platform to learn many things from the great players with whom he shared the dressing room.
National discard Nasir Hossain was retained by Dhaka Dynamites, a team that formed a star-studded overseas line up, including the likes of legend Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena. When any team is bolstered by such kind of stars, it came as blessings for the players who stayed with them under the same roof.
“I had the experience to share the dressing room with Sangakkara, Ravi Bopara. This time there is Mahela Jayawardena. Sanga, Mahela all are legends. A player like me could learn many things from them, like how they take the preparation for a match, how their fitness regime and others. It’s a blessing for not only me, but also the other players,” Nasir said.
“But Sangakkara rarely talks about cricket. He mainly talks with other subjects. But if we do any mistake in playing shot or in the ground, he comes to us and tells us what mistakes we have done. That is also a good experience.”
Nasir however hasn’t complained much despite being discarded from the national team but he said he would leave no stone unturned to get back to the squad again.
“Everybody wants to play good, I am not exceptional. I am not worried about my position. whatever position is given, I always try to play to my potential and contribute in team’s success,” he pointed out.
Dhaka Dynamites’ campaign ended in the last edition of BPL after they were eliminated by Barisal Bulls in the Eliminator game. They however had taken a sweet revenge, crushing the Bulls by eight wickets in the opening game.
They flexed their batting muscle in such emphatic way that most of the batsmen had no chance to bat. Opener Mehedi Maruf was the unlikely start of the game, hitting a scintillating 45 ball-75 not out. His big hitting prowess left the stadium spellbound and at the same time sent a message, Dhaka this time formed a team after much experience and learning the lesson from the last year’s mistakes.
Nasir believed that big win could be a stepping stone in their plea to win the title. Dhaka Dynamites would take on Rajshahi Kings, a team led by West Indian World Cup T20 winning captain Darren Sammy. “Our team is bolstered with several quality all-rounders and we have the hunger to win the match. Rajshahi would be a difficult opponent but they would be psychologically upset because of losing a match that they could win. However we’ve to play to our potential,” Nasir believed.
“We’ll be upbeat after getting the tournament off to a good start. They would try to make a turnaround but we’ll be desperate to continue our winning streak,” he remarked.
