The Rajshahi Kings’ batting debacle in the last over reminded Sabbir Rahman the Bangladesh’s match against India during the World T20 this year.
Sabbir’s Rajsahi Kings needed just seven runs to win the opening game against Khulna Titans but they lost three wickets in the last over to score just three and subsequently was beaten by three runs.
In the World T20, Bangladesh needed just two runs in the last three balls, an easy task in any sense. It was much easier for the fact that there were two stalwarts of Bangladesh’s batting—Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad were in the crease. Still Bangladesh lost the match by one run.
Incidentally Mahmudullah Riyad delivered the last over for Khulna Titans and inflicted the same damage to leave Sabbir Rahman’s Rajshahi Kings dumbstruck.
Sabbir’s contribution was just 4 in that match and he had to see the team’s batting debacle haplessly from the dressing room.
“If we fall 100 times in this situation, we’ll win it for 100 times. But nothing to say. We have to look ahead, learning from the mistakes that we had done in that match,” Sabbir said.
“We are professional cricketers, so we should curb the emotion to prepare for the next match. But such sort of defeat always haunts. It reminds me our match against India during the World T20.”
At one phase, Rajshahi Kings needed five runs of four balls. Sabbir said the plan was to take single and win the match but that plan didn’t work as Mahmudullah Riyad took three wickets in four balls.
“The plan was to keep us clam and take a single. But we went for glory shots. We went for hitting six. That was the mistakes. We have to learn from that.”
Rajshahi Kings however will take on Dhaka Dynamites in the next match today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Dynamites are bolstered with several quality foreign stars and are believed to be a champion material.
“There is no big or small team in T20 cricket. It’s a game of 120 balls. The all seven teams of BPL are good enough. The fact is that the team who will play on their given day would win,” Sabbir pointed out. “We were on the verge of winning the last game but just one over cost us the game. So anything can happen in T20 cricket. You can’t take anything guaranteed.”
After his matured 69 runs knock in the first Test against England that almost sealed the match for Bangladesh, gave Sabbir a status of a versatile player. After being considered as player of limited version game, the innings also gave the team management a confidence that Sabbir could be a Test material also.
Sabbir however was delighted after the way he proved his mettle but for the time being, he preferred to keep his focus on BPL only.
“The BPL is going on now, so for the time being, I have been focusing on BPL only. After that I will think about New Zealand series. We’ll set up base camp in Australia and will play against Sydney Thunders. Hopefully the practice will be good.”
