Myanmar has shown keen interest to reciprocate Bangladesh’s ‘Ashrayan Project’ and its experience in building cyclone shelter centres in coastal areas, reports UNB.
Myanmar Commander in Chief (Air) General Khin Aung Myint showed the interest when he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said General Myint at the meeting showed keen interest to reciprocate Bangladesh’s Ashrayan Project and cyclone shelter centres in coastal areas to protect citizens from natural calamities in Myanmar.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
said as a close-door neighbour, Bangladesh always values having good relations and cooperation with Myanmar.
“Bangladesh shares a historic relation with Myanmar,” the Prime Minister said adding that the two
countries have long been engaged in trade through the border and sea routes.
The Prime Minister mentioned the insurgency problems of Myanmar saying Bangladesh would never allow the use its land to cause damage to its neighbours.
General Myint thanked the Prime Minister for Bangladesh’s support to Myanmar against terrorist activities along the border saying now Myanmar border is under control. She also appreciated Bangladesh’s socioeconomic progress under Sheikh Hasina’s able leadership.
Pointing to the similar conflict Bangladesh experienced in its Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region, Hasina said Bangladesh has resolved it without intervention of any other country.
PM’s Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Myanmar ambassador in Bangladesh U Myo Myint Than were present at the meeting.
