The curtain will rise on the three-day ‘Dhaka International Folk Festival 2016’, one of the most awaited events for the Dhaka audience, today evening at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital.
This year, 125 artistes from seven countries are scheduled to perform in the second edition of the festival. Organised by Sun Events, the mega event will take place every day from 6pm to 12 midnight.
The festival will begin today with the performance of Abdur Rahman Baul from Bangladesh. Other artists of the day are Tun Tun Baul (Bangladesh), Simon Thacker’s Svara-Kanti (UK)featuring Raju Das Baul (India) & Farida Yasmin (Bangladesh) and Javed Bashir (Pakistan). Besides, the closing performance of the night will be given by celebrated folk singer Momtaz Begum from Bangladesh.
The artistes line up for the second day of the festival includes Jalal (Bangladesh), Latif Sarkar (Bangladesh), Prosad (Canada), Indian Ocean (India), Shafi Mondol & Labik Kamal Gaurob (Bangladesh), Karen Lugo & Ricardo Moro (Spain). And, celebrated Indian singer Kailash Kher will be the final attraction of the night.
On the other hand, Sunil Karmokar (Bangladesh), Islamuddin Kissakar (Bangladesh), Bari Siddiqui (Bangladesh), Nooran Sisters (India), Taposh and Friends (Bangladesh), Sam Mills (UK) featuring Susheela Raman (UK), along with the special attraction of the event--Paban Das Baul (India), will perform on the concluding day of the festival on November 12.
Meril presents ‘Dhaka International Folk Festival 2016’, in association with GP Music, is powered by Dhaka Bank Limited and supported by Microsoft Bangladesh. Besides, Maasranga TV comes up as broadcast partner, while The Westin Dhaka as hospitality partner, Square Hospital as medical partner and Shohoz.com as registration partner. Besides telecasting on Maasranga TV, the festival will be aired live on YouTube also.
To note, the security will be tightened centring the three-day folk festival and, the audiences, who will be coming to the festival, cannot enter the venue with any type of bags. For the sake of security, no entry will be allowed after 10pm. Moreover, there will be no parking facilities for the private cars.
