Mohammad Shahzad launched Rangpur Riders BPL-4 campaign in an emphatic fashion as he smashed a blitzkrieg 52-ball 80 to propel the side to a nine-wicket victory over Chittagong Vikings at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital yesterday. Shahzad’s undefeated knock, which contained 11 fours and three huge sixes, helped the side overhaul Chittagong’s 124 with five overs to spare.
He and Soumya Sarkar, who scored 23, combined for a 77-run partnership in just 10 overs to make the chase a one-way traffic. Tymal Mills broke the partnership to save the team from ultimate blushes. Shahzad, however, sailed the team home with the support of Mithun Ali who was unbeaten on 12 runs. The bowlers paved the platform for Riders after skipper Naeem Islam won the toss and chose to field, considering the dew factor in November that would give them edge.

Sohag Gazi and Riders’ English recruit Richard Gleeson claimed two wickets apiece while Shahid Afridi took one wicket conceding just 12 runs.
