Mixed reaction in Bangladeshi community

Donald Trump’s victory in the US elections yesterday upset many Bangladeshis living in the US but there are some who believe that it will not affect the community that much as apprehended.

According to a rough estimate, half a million Bangladeshis are living in the US, most of them lean Democrat ideals.
Definitely the supporters of the Democratic party are shocked but I believe that there is no need to be worried especially after the speech of Trump early hour today, said Moin Choudhury, who is a practising attorney with the US Supreme Court. “His speech is very encouraging as he said that he wants to work together with all and he will be the president of all Americans,” Ali said.

And since he is a New Yorker he knows the mindsets of the people of New York, where most of Bangladeshi American people reside.
He said that the applications for residency permits pending with the court will never be affected with the regime change.
“But those who are living here illegally will be treated as per law but that is very usual. Even many have been deported under Obama administration which are not that much publicised,” he pointed out.
Ali felt that the reason for Trump’s victory was his success in convincing the voters especially the White Americans that he would be engaged in improving their lots.
On the other hand, many fear that they might face unnecessary hassles for being Muslims.
If he would act as he said about Muslims during the campaign life would be difficult here, Imran Ali, a Bangladeshi taxi cab driver in New York, said in his instant reaction.  
Shahidul Alam, a Bangladeshi living in Maryland, said that usually the country is run by a group of policymakers and constitution and not by the president alone.
“So far those who are law abiding I don’t think there will be any problem under Trump’s presidency,” he added.
